Furniture designer Alexis Moran is a fourth-generation Bay Area native who is destined, it seems, for a role in designing public spaces. Her eclectic artistic lineage stretches back to a great-grandfather and uncle responsible for the monumental art-glass installations in San Francisco’s City Hall, Olympic Club, Neiman Marcus, and the Palace Hotel Garden Court, which remain as spectacular today as in the early 1900s. Alexis studied Industrial Design at Georgia Tech and then graduated with honors from the Wood/Furniture Program at California College of the Arts (CCA).
In 2010, she established a new business as Alexis Moran Furniture Design and soon after was awarded a breakout project in the booming tech industry, Dropbox’s first conference tables. Later, AMFD was selected as a furniture designer and fabricator by Google’s Real Estate & Workplace Services Group. A flood of new work led to an expansion of shop facilities in 2015, including complete restaurant interiors (Hapa, Hogwash, Del Popolo), entire residential interior projects, as well as numerous individual pieces. Alexis was also invited to appear in a furniture design reality show, Ellen’s Design Challenge, airing on HGTV in 2016.
Alexis’ body of work exhibits a unique ability to make intuitive, useful, and beautiful pieces through a design process that is personalized from concept to installation.
